Child-Led Learning

At Rising Stars Pre-School & Nursery, we understand every child is unique and has their own style of learning. We provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for your child to develop and learn through play, covering all the areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We follow the 'in the moment planning' approach which captures the individuality of each child. 'In the moment planning' allows us to be flexible to your child’s needs and bring new and interesting learning opportunities into their play environment.

Using the ‘in the moment’ approach works well because babies and young children are experiencing and learning in the here and now, not storing up their questions until tomorrow or next week. It is during these moments of curiosity, puzzlement, effort or interest – the ‘teachable moment’ – that our skilled staff will make a difference and help develop your child’s knowledge and skills. Working this way helps to sustain the interests of the children. This is where experiences are planned (who knows what your child will be interested in the next minute, never mind the following week). Research shows that when a child shows high levels of involvement in an activity, their brain is at their most active and that is when the most progress and development occurs. A child choosing their own activities shows higher levels of involvement than a child asked to take part in a preplanned adult activity. We follow this child-led approach and provide toys and resources that they can select themselves. We introduce new experiences and opportunities throughout the year to enhance the learning such as celebrations of festivals, healthy body and mind, around the world and planets, mini beasts and gardening, this all happens naturally through changing seasons and interests of the children.

Allow your child to reach their full potential

We encourage children to learn through the things they know and love - we work with their individual interests to improve their learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our skillful practitioners ensure that phonics and arithmetic are incorporated during play, however or wherever they chose. This provides the fundamentals to prepare them for the further education and sets them apart from the rest due to the high levels of engagement they experience.

Parent partnerships

Parents are encouraged to be active in their children’s learning. Through their secure online journal, they can upload photos of things they do at home as a family. This journal will also have pictures and notes of what your child has been doing at nursery linked into their learning and development within the EYFS. Parents are also asked if there is anything specific they would like us to focus on within their child’s learning throughout the term/year. We also have annual parents evenings and stay and play days.

Extra activities

Situated inside Goldstar Active, we can offer pre-school children the opportunity to take part in their day time sessions for a small charge. You can take a look at our price chart. These sessions include gymnastics, trampolining, baby ballet and soft play.

These activities will help your child to stay healthy and active through a fun environment, giving them the best possible start and a real zest for life.
